21 DAYS TO BUILDING A NEW PARENTING HABIT – DAY 4

21 DAYS TO BUILDING A NEW PARENTING HABIT.

DAY 4

Anticipate your distractions and excuses.

It is not *if* you will be distracted or feel like making excuses, it is *when*. Trust me.
Settle into that feeling, because the more you expect it, the better prepared you will be when it strikes.

This is great though. You know all your excuses and distractions best. You are literally the world’s leading expert on YOU, so you have all this valuable information. You know what will be hardest for you, and what could possibly be your downfall. Use this insider information. Arm yourself with it.

Don’t listen to the negative voice inside your head telling you can’t do this, you always fail at these things, you may as well give up now. Don’t just not listen to that voice, back talk the bastard!

voice: ‘You’ve failed all the previous times’.
you: ‘Screw you voice, those other times were just practice.’

voice: ‘You’re too tired to go to the gym.’
you: ‘Says who? You’re not the boss of me.’

voice: ‘You’re nothing special, you’ll never succeed.’
you: ‘I’m in control of my life. This is about more than just this habit. Successful people don’t give up. I’m NEVER giving up.

You know yourself best, right? If you’re losing weight, and when you drive from home work and go past your favourite bakery with all those mmmmm aaaaahhhhh smells working their way up your nostrils to tempt you, that’s not doing you any favours. Take a different route home.

If you’re quitting meat, driving past your favourite steak joint also is not helpful. You get what I’m saying? Seeing the pattern here?

If you’re quitting drinking, so you can avoid hangovers and have more mental energy to be with your kids in the morning, hanging out with your party party friends isn’t what you need right now. Spend time with sober friends instead.

Make it easy for you to avoid your excuses. ALL of them.

Beat them down and say your mantra or affirmation over and over.

Hell, say it right now! And say it like you mean it.
Use it as a battlecry as you go to war with your excuses – clubbing them over the head with your mantra.

See you tomorrow for day 5.
